The Muses of antiquity have been captured by a group of exceptionally talented students at an elite university. They keep all the Muses' inspiration to themselves and have ritually bound them into servitude, thus becoming The Inspired - the most celebrated artists, scientist and leaders in the world.

Once a year, all of the Inspired and their Muses come together at Helicon Manor, to renew the ritual that binds them. All of the Muses are siblings; they both crave one another's company and need it. Helicon is a larp about inspiration, power, complicated relationships, freedom and dependency.

Characters will use and abuse power, and try to find a way to co-exist. They need to decide what they are willing to do to other people and creatures in order to achieve their goals, and what they are willing to sacrifice in order to get what they want.

This collaborative larp aims for high emotion and intensity. It includes a lot of social play and tension, as well as some ritualistic content.

Mechanics
Helicon relys heavily on dyadic play, where you are two people whose narratives and somewhat identity are closely bound to each other. You are the "Muse and Inspired" of a field, e.g. philosophy, dance, sculpture or politics.

Dinner Warfare is a also a design element in Daemon.

Setting
Ingame, the larp takes place in a mansion called Helicon Manor, in a remote place somewhere in rural Wales.

The larp is set in the “vintage era”, which is an unspecified time, somewhere between the late 19th century and the middle of the 20th century. The exact year or location are not of central importance to the game. The World Wars are not relevant to the larp.

Mortal characters come from different parts of the world and from various backgrounds, most of them from upper-class families but some got in on pure brilliance. They met when they all studied at the same elite university in England, St. Catherines’s. There, they found a way to lure the Muses of antiquity, and to compel them to manifest themselves.

Since graduation, they have all had spectacular careers, either in art, science, or in leadership. They are the Inspired whose work is known across the world. They can choose however and wherever in the world they want to live – some cannot get enough of fame and publicity, while others prefer to dwell as hermits in secret locations, and only come out to show their latest works.

All of them are able to earn vast amounts of money. Some will use their fortunes wisely, while for others the money will corrupt and destroy.

You can read more about the setting here: World of Helicon - Setting document

Playstyle
Daemon is a Nordic larp by Katrine Wind where a core mechanic is extreme Dyadic Play where two players are playing one character; a human and its soul in the form of an animal - namely its daemon.

Daemon has a vintage and steampunk feel and is inspired by aspects from the book series His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman.

Website: Daemon Larp

Vision
The core or this larp is experiencing how it is to play the same character as someone else and be in symbiosis with them. You don't sign up in pairs to be family, lovers or anything of the sort – but two parts of the same human.

Mechanics
Daemon relys heavily on dyadic play, and you sign up as a human/daemon couple with the daemon player wearing some kind of animal-representing make-up and/or costume but not a full animal outfit. The daemons can talk and interact with the humans.

The dyadic partners can't go more than two meters away from each other during the in-game time.

It is an absolute taboo and transgression for a human to touch another person's daemon.

Dinner Warfare is a core design element in Daemon.

Safety design is based on Katrine Wind's The House of Bravery concept.

Setting
The larp takes place in the aftermath of a war in which many of the characters helped kill the God of this world. The characters have gathered at the mansion to celebrate the victory and what the hostess calls "The Birth of the Scientific Age".

But not everyone wants to be there. Not all of the heroes see themselves as that and because of a last attack from the losing side, even adversaries from the war have had to flee to this exact place.

The war has brought together people from all classes. Class differences are an important part of the experience. Everybody present experiences the pressure of social norms because of the nobility present.

Scientific experiments and political issues in the aftermath of the war are key elements of the play experience at least for some players.

Spoils of War by Katrine Wind and Alexander Bakkensen is an epic style, feminist Nordic Larp in low fantasy disguise. The themes are family, the horrors of war, romance, broken expectations and abuse of power. It is a fantasy allegory and the main theme is what happens to people after a brutal world war. Everybody important in the world is present.

Website: Spoils of War

Vision
The core of this larp is to experience epic drama on a personal level within the framework of a global catastrophe. Complex character relations are in the forefront of the messy aftermath of the war.

Setting
The larp takes place in the aftermath of a war and you play either on the losing or winning side and most play nobles, while there are also a few commoners and religious characters. We play in a world of low fertility, so every loss of life is devastating. Almost everybody follows "The Faith of Life", which is a dualistic non-deity religion based on Life and Death. There are religious figures for both. There are also two other very minor religious paths for a few houses.

There is a culture clash as well as tension between the majority of the population "The City Folk" and the "Woodlanders". "The Great Sin" happened 150 years ago. During this time, Woodlanders and City Folk lived mostly in peace. But some Woodlanders had grown more extreme and full of righteous hatred over the developments for City Folk, who had taken more and more of the forests for themselves. Leaders of different groves gathered and agreed to strike at the different principalities of the City Folk. A huge number of cities and villages were wrecked, and only the largest cities and stone castles and houses survived. Survivors were taken as working slaves for the groves. But for some houses, the two cultures are almost the same and intertwined.

There is no magic in the setting, and the level of technology is that there are no guns, and horses are the preferred means of transportation if you can afford it. There are no doctors but "healers". The know the use of herbs, amputations, leeches and mercury but nothing more advanced than that.

Mechanics
The human body has the potential to reach 200 years of age if you are nobility, whereas commoners who have worked hard are considered old at 60. Furthermore, you can become pregnant up until 80 years of age as a noble, so you just add more good years to your life. This means that there is an almost mythological respect for nobility among the commoners. You are considered young until you are either married or very accomplished, so e.g. a 45 year old unmarried person could still be considered young while a married 25 year old could be considered adult. In practice, this means that your offgame age matters less in this world and you have further alibi to experience all kinds of stories no matter your offgame appearance and preferences.

The winning and losing side start out by being separated and have taken prisoners of war from each others. We play the very end of the war including a prisoner inspection right at the beginning of the larp.

Structured trials and negotiations where the content of the cases and subjects are just alibi for what happens regarding drama, relations and communication.

Dinner Warfare is a minor design element of one of the acts in Spoils of War. The religious celebration "Feast of Life" gives alibi for the two sides to play together before the war is over and see the prisoners of war on the other side, as everybody is supposed to not do anything violent or do politics on this day. This results in a pressure cooker scene during the lunch celebration.

The safety design is based on Katrine Wind's framework of The House of Bravery. Original safety design heavily co-designed with Klara Rotvig.

Spoils of War is an epic style Nordic Larp where collaborative storytelling is in focus. So this is not a "slice of life" sort of larp.
The characters are in the most exceptional circumstances of their lives and their decisions and actions have potentially world changing consequences – but mostly they will try to build the best possible future for themselves and those they love. Think of the noble familie more as gangsters than posh Brits.

The concept of Playing an engaging victim is stressed throughout the larp.

The feminist aspects are underlined by the fact that you can play all kinds of stories and tropes from the classically rigid fantasy themes regardless of gender. There are only binary genders ingame, while all genders can play all characters. But the specific feminist part comes to show by the fact that some houses are designed as matriarchal, some patriarchal and some egalitarian. This provides an alibi for all kinds of characters to have all kinds of views and life experiences that aren't gendered after our real world tropes. E.g. the strongest and most legendary general in the world is a woman, and one of the young male characters play out a "princess story". Spoils of War doesn't just reverse gender roles, however. You can still play a female damsel-in-distress or a misogynic male general, but you are just not bound to these kinds of stories if you have a preference to play a certain gender.

Only the "vibe" and the idea of a human having a Daemon is featured from the original material in the larp.

We play the very end of the war including a prisoner inspection right after a frustration workshop to get everyones' blood boiling.

Playstyle
Spoils of War is an epic style Nordic Larp where collaborative storytelling is in focus. So this is not a "slice of life" sort of larp. The larp is designed for longevity and the most possible intensity in the beginning of the larp both regarding mechanic and schedule and from the principles of Katrine Wind's design concept: River Rafting Design found in the Knutepunkt 2025 book.

Practical facts
Number of players: 58 (+3 facilitator characters)

Language: English

Runs: The first runs happened in 2019 and there have been 6 runs in different locations in Denmark.

Inspiration: The larp is inspired by the two Danish Victorius larps that Katrine Wind and Alexander Bakkensen designed in 2016 and 2017.

There have been many iterations and improvements of the larp over the years - most prominently for the 2022 and 2026 runs. In 2019, Katrine Wind and Morten Pedersen made the two first international versions with a lot of help from Alexander Bakkensen. In 2022, 2024 and 2025, Katrine Wind was the sole main organizer and from 2026, Alexander Bakkensen is main organizer.

Furthermore, Spoils of War is inspired by Game of Thrones, The Tudors, Shakespeare and other epic tales about nobility in war and conflict with massive consequences for the individuals.
